It’s the best time of the year to be a brewer or really a consumer in the PNW, FRESH HOP SEASON!! Things have changed in the past few years and now Fresh hops are being flown all over the country for brewers to make these special, once a year brews, but I remember a time brewing in San Diego where thinking how cool it would be to get to brew Fresh hop beer. Fast forward a few years and here we are, BreakThru Brewing Company’s first Fresh Hop IPA!
I chose to work with Crosby Hop Farm out of Woodburn, Oregon for a multitude of reasons, but mostly, their El Dorado is heads above the rest. When you look at consistency in flavor profile, quality, and oil density there’s no one that comes close. The fresh El Dorado this year was beautiful, and so potent I had to roll the windows down in the van on the drive home because I was getting a headache from the aroma! 30 pounds of fresh El Dorado per barrel was used on the hot side, and finished with a double dry hop of 7 pounds per barrel of Crosby grown El Dorado t90 and SUUUPER potent hop hash! Seriously most Cryo hops have an oil content of between 2.0-3.0mL/100g, The Hop Hash I was able to get from Crosby came in at a RIDICULOUS 5.0mg!! What’s that mean you ask? Bursting tropical flavors, and sticky hop resin that coats your mouth as you make your way through the glass.
I chose to keep this year’s batch a single hop brew as you can see, I’m pretty enamored with Crosby’s El Dorado and I wanted this batch to be the best expression of what their hops can do. Pricing is below, limits will apply this time around. Thanks for reading, I can’t wait for you all to try my latest creation!
