I was fortunate in 2020 in relation to smoke in the wines after the Labor Day fires, but this guy wasn’t spared. With that, I present to you yet another version of smoked Ashes to Ashes (in a former life Baby Blue). By having the experience of 2017, I felt the character of the smoke in that wine had a very different quality in this vintage. In 2017 we had three weeks with heavy smoke in the air, which delayed ripening in the fruit that we didn’t see in 2020. The duration of smoky skies, proximity to the epicenter of the fires, and the overall vintage characteristics are central to the differences between the wines and they couldn’t really be any more different. Please understand this wine is smoked before purchasing.
